Downhill Dawn by Lori Mitchell

Peppermint Pete is a dapper doll of peppermint-pink bravado, a jaunty confectioner in a cherry-red coat and striped candy cane vest, crowned with a swirl of peppermint atop his hat. He marches to the tune of jingling bells, baton topped with a red-and-white swirl leading the parade of sweetness, while his rosy cheeks and twinkling eyes hint at mischief and mirth. With striped stockings and a pocketful of peppermint spark, he sprinkles whimsy wherever he steps, turning ordinary rooms into sugared playgrounds and every moment into a festive, snow-kissed wink.

Run Run Reindeer prances forever forward, frozen mid-adventure with a look that says the North Pole is calling and there’s no time to waste. His delicate antlers stretch proudly ahead while tiny bells at his collar seem ready to jingle at the slightest breeze, and perched atop his back is a wide-eyed holiday helper clinging on with candy-striped determination. Together they balance whimsy and wonder—woodland grace mixed with toy-shop magic—like a storybook moment caught just before the dash turns into flight. You can almost hear their soft hooves tapping and feel the thrill of a merry mission just beginning.

This cheerful skeleton gentleman stands with polite confidence, as if he’s waiting to tip his hat and tell a very good joke. His skull wears a friendly grin, softened by rosy cheeks and bright, curious eyes that sparkle with mischief rather than menace. Dressed in a dapper orange-and-black ensemble, he sports striped trousers, a snug vest over his bony ribs, and a jaunty polka-dot bow tie that feels delightfully festive. A tall top hat, cocked just so and adorned with a tiny sunflower, crowns his look, while his hands rest neatly atop a slender cane, suggesting old-fashioned manners and a love for moonlit strolls. Balanced on his little green base, he’s less a creature of fright and more a charming host, ready to welcome you into a whimsical world where even skeletons dress their best.

Igor stands very still, as if the world has just said something unexpected and he’s not quite sure how to respond. His wide, wondering eyes and tiny “o” of a mouth give him the look of someone forever caught between curiosity and surprise. Two little antenna-like tufts of hair spring from his head, tuned in to mysteries only Igor can hear.

He’s dressed in a delightfully odd ensemble: a bright yellow vest peeking out from a dark jacket, trousers patterned like a secret code, and a magnificent orange bow tie that practically announces him before he speaks. A small jack-o’-lantern charm hangs at his side, a cheerful companion for spooky strolls and moonlit misadventures.

Striped socks march down to shiny shoes, grounding him on his little patch of green. Igor may look uncertain, but there’s something brave in the way he stands—ready to wander into the strange and wonderful, one wide-eyed step at a time.
